General Cable's Cat5e Outdoor CMX Cable is the best on the market. It is sunlight resistant and durable enough for some outdoor uses. The CMX outdoor rating allows the cable to be exposed for short distances from the Network Interface Device on the outside of the house to the point where the cable enters the house. CMX Cat5e outdoor cable is not for underground use of any kind and not to be aerially lashed.
Note: Some other online retailers have recommended this type of cable for underground burial in pipe. Many underground conduits will fill with water that never dries out. This is not a good idea. This cable can get wet, but should not sit in water for an extended period of time.
This product comes packaged in easy, convenient 600-foot pull boxes. Most online retailers only sell full 1000-foot boxes, which usually ends up being way too much cable to wire your house. The 600-foot boxes are just the right size to leave you a little extra after wiring all of the voice and data in an average size house. There is no reason to pay for what you’re not going to use!
This product is very similar to the standard Cat5e PVC cable, the main difference being that it has a thicker heavier UV rated outer jacket. It has an ivory outer jacket, with bright colors on the individual conductors so that they are easy to see when you’re working in an area with low light.
